vibe coding
i'm quite late to the vibe-coding scene, and i was extremely skeptical. not just about 'security', but about 'maintainability' and 'speed' and 'quality' of code.
i decided to give it a shot with so many open-source, low-cost, free-trial plans being available: opencode and opencode's free plans seemed super nice for small fixes and overall tiny projects. except it didn't stop there, i realized for old projects or things i just didn't want to start from scratch, just letting it do the work while i... scroll twitter...? was much easier.
i did start to slowly lose the passion to 'build things' in the free time since starting to study computer science and working two days a week also on a software engineering job (where i, to this date, did not 'vibe-code' thankfully), but this low friction of vibe coding for personal projects is, i think, the final blow for this. i didn't have much hobbies to begin with, and now 'programming' or well 'building things' is also taken from me. i know i can do what organic farmers and artisanal bakers are doing and do 'home-grown software' and try to 'hand-code' everything, but knowing a bot can do it 50 times faster with roughly the same quality (at least for small weekend projects) just sucked out that motivation.
i'm trying to adapt instead of hate on new technologies, but i'm also starting to get worried about my career and 'the future of all this'. i don't really have a passion for 'prompting', and i guess i need to find new hobbies.
but still, i feel like a monkey with an ak-47 and am trying to adapt. i set up some remote agents and some tailscale-phone-accessable UIs (opencode web), and i'm trying to use free plans and free models as much as possible. admittably it's also quite fun to see your ideas come to life so fast. i'll keep playing.
