film photography

15 Oct 2026

i recently found a plastic film camera, a kodak ec100. i decided to buy some film and take some pictures. they turned out quite nice!

i think it makes me think more about the photos before taking them, and value them more in the end. i guess the case is similar for any form of delayed gratification. i find the 'joy' is much more synthetic when it is instantly achieveable.

it also came with a lot of peripheral consumerism: better cameras and film exist. i ended up buying a cheap half-format camera as well, so i could 'save money on film', as if i'd take so many film photos...

i decided to use it only for 'special moments' like vacation or parties, and focus on photographing people and moments, and not really the surroundings or the view. i find at least the feeling of 'belonging' and 'friends' and 'nostalgia' is almost always with friends and family and the 'surroundings' and 'view' do not contribute nearly as much.
